Chick, Unfortunately, not entirely. Most, if not all 'unknowns' are generated (if one chooses to put in 'unknown' then that is one which I consider one would wish to print) by Legacy, if a dot is inserted into an empty field then it will show up instead of 'unknown', I haven't tried a space, but I am not sure whether it would work or not. I do use the dot technique to ensure that a field is created for use in Legacy Tree draw which does not create empty fields.
The problem arises in that pretty well all the Legacy created unknowns are instead of spouse names, and in web pages, and at least some reports if a spouse's parent is not known (but one is) a line is inserted which says something like: "John married Amy the daughter of Alan Roberts and unknown", or "John married Amy the daughter of unknown and Ann Roberts". As you see a dot will not look good! Anyhow, we should not have this problem, we did not used to have it and it came in with one of the updates. Clearly the programmers do not consider it to be important. I haven't tried it, but how about putting a couple of spaces or an inconspicuous character in the name field?
