Olwyn, I do apologize for the misinformation. I always add (_________) for any unknown names so I'd not noticed the 'Leave Blank' was no longer working! Yikes, Ron, this needs to be corrected. Few things are more exasperating than having a format option that doesn't work as expected.

The bur, and that is what it is, arose very shortly after version 7 was released and nothing has been done about it to date. The only work-around is to use a word processor and delete all instances of “ and unknown”, “ unknown and“ (note the space at the start of both and then “unknown”. A total pain in the neck! The "leave blank" option is checked and I don't have access to the child status tab (greyed out). I do have the deluxe version but may have installed it badly.
