Lee and Ron, I think all OSs can display to screen without having a printer installed first. If you buy a new pc, doesn't it have the abillity to display images on screen before a printer driver is installed?? Legacy is the first piece of software where I've seen this requirement. Linux is not so different in that respect than Windoz. I've not seen any Linux software requiring printer installation before it would operate.
I prefer Linux because then I'm not plagued with attacks as I am in Windoz. I have never used an anti-virus software in Linux and have yet to suffer damage. Be a minute out of date in Windoz and you system is in very real danger. I have suffered when my Windoz update was less than a week late. If email and web-browser is all you want than Linux is far better. But I want Legacy, which does not run directly on Linux, so I need Windoz. BTW I can run my complete Linux system, email, browser, graphics, office, etc. from a DVD or mem. stick. Someday, soon I hope, I'll put XP in my Linux VirtualBox and install Legacy and have it all on a mem. stick. Legacy's website says that it is possible and it would surprize me if no one has done so as yet. As far as not being up to date with Legacy, I see no reason to update. Is the newer version faster, better coded, more compact? I have a 15 yr old house, a 10 yr old car, and a 30 yr marriage. I see no reason to update them either. I can update Linux for free. Try that with Windoz. Bottom line: If it works, don't fix it.
