What data do you have on the flash drive? If it is a backup of your family file then you need to use in Legacy the File > Restore option and navigate to the flash drive to find the file to restore.
If it is all the files associated with your family file (or just the .fdb file) then you need to use File > Open. But before doing this you probably want to copy it to the hard drive of your laptop and then open it from there. I've never used a Mac with or without the ability to run Windows programs so not sure how different the copying is. Import is only for importing a Gedcom or PAF OR importing a Legacy file into an existing database. There's more instructions on the Legacy website if you need them. I don't know whether any are Mac/VM Fusion related.
