Hi Pam, With Legacy backup zips, you don't extract the files yourself usually, you just go to Legacy File > Restore and choose the location where the zip file is (not the media zip).
However, you could extract the files yourself I guess and then use File > Open to open the .fdb file - but make sure you are opening the one you've properly extracted and not the one still in the zip file. Sorry, it's really difficult to help further without seeing your screen. Maybe someone who uses VMFusion can help with more specific information.
