You don't state it specifically, but can we assume that the laptop has Legacy 8 installed on it? If not and you've got Legacy 7, then you're out of luck. You can go from 7 to 8 but not backwards in the opposite direction. You say you've got the data on the USB drive - but in which format? Legacy Backup (ie ZIP file) or Legacy Family File (FDB file). There is a very distinct difference. Assuming the first stumbling block isn't, then if the USB is showing up in the Windows part of the laptop, your problems come down to terminology. "Import" is generally for getting non-Legacy data into an existing Legacy file. If you're trying to read a GED file, then you should first create a new, empty family file, then import the foreign data. If the USB stick contains a Legacy Family File, then you need to use the File/Open command and bring up a Windows dialog box so that you can navigate to the USB stick and find the file. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg (g) Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
