I don't even know where to begin this is so frustrating. Let's go back to 1972. Yes, since the early '70s, if not earlier, conservatives in the Republican party have been advocating for an end to the drug war. 1972 happened to be when National Review put that demand on the FRONT PAGE! So Regan did nothing? How about lower the marginal tax rate form 70% (Thanks Democrats!) to 39% ?? Is that nothing? It is NOT nothing! It was only the biggest expansion of freedom and pull back on federal power in years! And, if you care to remember, Regan's budgets were DOA in the Democratically controlled congress until he would put his pen to enough spending to keep Congress happy. Let us not also forget that it was the REPLUICAN controlled Congress of 1996 which SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN, rather than bust the debt ceiling as Democrats and Clinton wanted to do. Only after a ridiculous amount of pressure from Congressmen and their stooges in the media did the Republicans cave (and cave they did). All this hate stored up by disgruntled Libertarians is REALLY what holds back this damn party and relegates the vote totals to the single digits. Regan, Clinton, Bush, LBJ, Kennedy, FDR, they're all complicit along with Congressmen and judges in 100 plus years of needles government expansion. Why waste time with painting someone as "the worst President in history," blah, blah, blah. By going negative, instead of focusing on real accomplishments like major tax cuts by Regan and major Welfare reform by Clinton, the LP ends up being the party of sour grapes before it is the party of principle.
