Correct, even today mall roads, industrial park, subdivision and
private community roads are often built and maintain by the owners, I
have even read that a few non private community roads are maintain by
locals through donated labor and or money. While I would like to see
the roads out of the hands of the federal and state government I'm
not exacattaly thrilled with some of the privitization projects that
I have heard about in Western Europe and possibly planned for the US.
I don't know that I like the idea of turning over a road to some vast
rent seeking politically connected Global ( especially foreign)
owned) corporation, although I have heard that the private expressway
in Ca. was built without political favors, or stealing other peoples
land through eminet domain. It would be better to turn over the roads
to the local community or to the former owners when it was taking
from them by force. If the local community or former owners want to
lease or sale their section of the interstate to a private operator (
and I think many would) they have that right, but some may want to
run it themselves as a toll road or continue with no charge to the
drivers.--- In [email protected], Urmas Järve <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

countries have began privatising highways and private companies are
constructing them as well. If socialist Portugal can have private
highways then why can't a more capitalistic US have them?

take care of the sick and old? I have heard a lot of people
complaining that the younger generations don't have good values
anymore. But I ask how could they if all the responsibility have been
switched over to the state? Just as my grandmother took care of me
when I was a child and had an accident what caused me to loose the
use of both of my hands for many months, I now take care of her.

defense. Also there are plenty of examples in history about private
defense. Switzerland is a nice example. Also just look at Iraq.
Private armies that are being funded by millions offer nice
resistance to the coalition army what is funded by billions.

well. Before public education private schools did the job. When
public education got instituted the literacy rate did not improve.
Public education is not an improvement. Also there are nice examples
in Africa of private schools teaching the youth and providing them
with far better education then they would normally get while being
cheaper then public education.

not understand how this can be nor do I know if it is true or not.
But what has happened to US tradition of teaching your kids? Is it
not the job of the parents to teach their kids and care for them?
Here I was taught by my parents to read and write both in Estonian
and English before I entered first grade. Of course my English skills
are no where near good enough but public school won't make it any
better.
