I should add that the LP Platform is not a short list of ringing slogans
that grab people and inspire them. The planks are lengthy, awkwardly
written, and most people who read them will be dissatisfied with them in
some way. I find most people who read them come away remembering only
the things they were dissatisfied with and forgetting the good stuff.
Each plank is a mini-essay from fervent advocates, but seldom expressed
well. Each advocacy group feels slighted if it isn't wordy enough, but
the less fervent are likely to be turned off by the wordiness,
especially if the meaning is not clear or compelling. It should not be
surprising that many if not most might decide to rescind them all hoping
someone will come back with something cleaner and more memorable.
