Okay... I've seen the term 'burn-proof' bandied around to describe some CD buring drives. Is this what that's all about?

Burn-proof is the Sanyo-registered name for the technique (They say it stands for 'Buffer UnderRuN-proof'), I'm of the impression that this implies makers that use this tag (Plextor and Liteon are 2 that come to mind although Liteon don't mark their drives as such anymore) use Sanyo technology somewhere in their mechanism ... other manufacturers have called it SafeBurn and the like, it's all the same thing where the drive inspects the buffer and if it starts dropping low, records enough information to allow it to safely start where it left off once the buffer fills again.

It is different to another thing called 'Smart-burn' (I've yet to find out if it is an acronym) whereby the drive inspects the disk to find its maximum safe burning speed before actually burning ... I also don't know which company that name is associated with.
