Various trademarked names for the same thing - "BurnProof", "JustLink", "PowerBurn", etc. all are methods of preventing buffer underrun from ruining a disk burn by stopping the burn process whenever the data isn't streaming to the drive quick enough, then, continuing when there is. Here's Ricoh's full details on JustLink - the other brand-names are the same principle. http://www.ricoh.co.jp/cd-r/e-/e_europe/drive/justlink.html > But I couldn't find very much information on this drive on the net, or on > the Sony website. What's the story there? Plus I didn't realize these are PCMCIA version http://storagebysony.com/cd-rw/product.asp?id=161 usb version http://storagebysony.com/cd-rw/product.asp?id=164 Their latest DVD-ROM/CD-RW/MP3 portable USB combo, MPD-AP20U http://storagebysony.com/cd-rw/product.asp?id=185 > multi format readers, and read and play DVDs. The Libbys at 266 aren't > going to deal with DVD play, are they? Seems I remember you're saying that > wasn't going to happen. They'll read DVDs and play them, but not at full 30fps speed w/o a Margi DVD-to-GO DVD PCMCIA decoder card! > Another surprise was the pricetag! I'll have to start saving my school > lunch allowance! Sony products are always expensive. Got mine at tech4less.com for ~$180, and www.ebay.com has them now and then. Otherwise, look at the Exp PCMCIA powered combo drives here: http://www.expnet.com/product.nsf/Combo Usually selling for the ~$150-200 range on www.ebay.com. > Would you know of any drives that just support burning and reading CDs with > the same affectiveness? See EXP drives above. But PCMCIA drives are getting rare; a USB 2.0 pcmcia card to USB 2.0 drive will work very well, and should be cheap ($10 for the card; $50+ for the drive). ===== adorable toshiba libretto The latest news and information for the Toshiba Libretto owner. http://www.silverace.com/libretto/ __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
