Sony products are always expensive. Got mine at tech4less.com for ~$180, and
www.ebay.com has them now and then.
$180 is a lot more reasonable than the $350+ I'd seen somewhere the other day.

See EXP drives above. But PCMCIA drives are getting rare; a USB 2.0 pcmcia
card to USB 2.0 drive will work very well, and should be cheap ($10 for the
card; $50+ for the drive).
Setting up EAC for ripping MP3s, I see where there are 3 functions that seem to be good to have in a CD-ROM drive to rip audio well if I decide to get a faster drive:
1. Accurate audio stream. 2. Capable of retrieving C2 errors 3. Cahching audio data
The HP M820E is capable of #1 and #2. I'm guessing that manufacturers don't supply this info. But it's probably out there somewhere.
