You are such a Doubting Adam! Have faith in VM virtualization and let someone else can prove it *won't* work. The card decks PUNCHed into the virtual reader are F 80 files and could be repro'd onto real cards. Just dedicate the punch side of the 2540 to the guest as well if you want real punched cards.
