Well, if it *doesn't* work, then the card reader emulation in VM is seriously broken and needs to get fixed ASAP (which I doubt -- that code hasn't been touched in ages -- and I fully expect it to work). The entire point of virtual card readers is that they ARE the same as real ones from a programming standpoint. I have some scheduled time there tomorrow -- I'll check at least whether the first few cards will IPL correctly.
You may be confusing this with the P390 3215 emulation. That IS different than the real thing, so the bare-metal 3215 console support doesn't work the same way.
