I came into the discussion a little late, so I had to read back to find out exactly 
what the problem was.  You're right, but it seems like adding scp (or even rcp) 
capability to USS/zOS would make
more sense than trying to back-port something like NJE to Linux just for yet another 
file transfer mechanism.

Neither FTP nor NJE are particularly secure, which wasn't a problem using NJE over 
dedicated SNA links, but that world is rapidly disappearing.  It's zOS that should be 
trying to "play nice" now, and
while they've made some progress, USS still seems to be far enough behind the curve to 
keep it from being a player.
