Rather than BUY yet another product for MVS, it was decided to transfer MVS outputs through my RSCS server to lots of IP addressable printers within the department. These printers are not just in the 6 or so buildings we have in the Washington area but are spread across the country. I have recently added some new functionality to this process by having RSCS transfer some outputs to a CMS server for tranformation into compressed PDFs which are emailed to the final recipient. This new enhancement was done with NO CHANGE (therefore NO MONEY SPENT) to end-user JCL/applications. Where the user used to fill in a spot on a form with DOEVM.Printername, they now enter DOEVM.PDFnickname and they get their report in their email.
I would love to have MVS and RSCS understand IPP (both in and out bound), but I don't have deep enough pockets for IBM to listen. /Thomas Kern /301-903-2211 > -----Original Message----- > From: David Boyes [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 10:22 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: NJE functionality using a linux server? > > Linux/Solaris/AIX/HPUX and even the Windows goons are already moving > past LPR/LPD and SMB to IPP. It's the right thing to do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
