Of course, even more annoying and wasteful are posts (like mine) that direct comments to the list server instead of directly to the offender. ;-) And no amount of discussion will save us from e-mail client upgrades that reset OOM preferences or interfaces that don't remember your selection. Or from people who are new to mailing lists and/or OOMs and don't understand the subtle details. I'd just rather the list server discard any e-mail that contains the phrase 'out of office'. That would also put the kaibosh on much of the subsequent discussion... :-) Yet more annoying still: The stupid DFRs when a subscriber's e-mail system is unable to deliver a copy of a post that I make to the list. Compared to list-related DFRs, OOMs are rare. So let's just ignore the OOMs and chalk it up to human frailty or ignorance. Not to worry - they'll see the public OOM when they return from wherever and hopefully remember the next time. We all have made the same mistake at one time or another, I'm sure.
