As I've stated numerous times in the past, I strongly recommend you not have your root file system be an LV. That's not an official Novell position, but mine based on numerous incidents over the years of mistakes being made, and having a very difficult time correcting them. Others disagree, but working in technical support has provided me with the unfortunate opportunity of saying things like "you don't have a backup of your entire system? I've only seen this error code when dasdfmt had not yet been run on a volume (or LDL was chosen manually instead of the default CDL).
