I'm trying to get sbc:fsk9600 working on Soundblaster AWE64 card, and
i am not sure the card is being initialize properly. It works just
fine for sbc:afsk1200 and i'm using the 'digital' port on the FT-736R
which exists specifically for 9600 baud operation.

I have attempted to 'smdiag' with sbc:fsk9600 to see the incoming signal,
and not much seems to be getting through. When i attempt to record it
off the air, using the 'snd' program (a former colleague at Stanford
rewrote it for UNIX/LINUX based on his original work for computer
analysis and processing for studio quality musical recording), and this
reveals that the even though the sound file is recorded at a sample rate
of 48 KHz, everything above 4 or 5 KHz has been completely attenuated.

There are a few obvious questions here. First, does 'soundmodem' do
filter selection and does it do it proerly? Second, does the OSS driver
select the input filters correctly for this card. Third, is there an
'audiophile' front-end on the AWE64 that precludes fsk9600 from working?

I've done audio hacking at the kernel level for 20+ years, so if i can
get a few clues, i can deal with many things myself. (Hey, i even got
an ARIA card to work at least in the output direction...) Has anyone
looked at this problem and/or is it worth pursuing?

Perhaps the better use of time would be to get a cheap PCI sound card.
Can anyone suggest one that is 'soundmodem' compatible?
