i think linux mounts only those removeable drives in which floppy/ cd is
already inserted at the time of booting up.

for auto mounting, uncheck the option "don't mount at startup" or
something like that in linuxconf. or in /etc/fstab.

eject is for removing/ changing cd, i don't think it has anything to do
with mounting/ unmounting the cd drive.
