Kernel recompilation is done, basically, if you are adding something to the
kernel, if you want to trim it to get a smaller kernel with the required
features, etc. Speed is also one of them. Both thing you can do, either
increase OR decrease. It depends upon the kind of compilation you are doing
(if you compile an experimental version, definetely, it will be a big
kernel....). So if you go for triming the kernel you will get extra speed as
there is always a good relationship between "time" and "space".
