Most of the responses you got for your question so far indicate that you
should recompile your own kernel.  I definitely recommend doing this too. 
Just to gain the experience of doing so.  This way, you will know what to
do if you ever had the need to recompile in the future.

Having said that, let me now play devils advocate and give you reasons why
you need not recompile a custom kernel:

1. When you have a custom built kernel, you need a recompile every time you
need support for something else.  If you use the kernel that comes with
your distribution, a recompile is not needed.

2. When you upgrade your OS, you need to recompile the latest and greatest
kernel if you have a custom kernel.  If you went with the modular kernel
that comes with your OS, you do not have to recompile.
