Makes sense, but I heard from several that they got hibernation
working on their Thinkpads.

Damn! I wanna be independent from that crap. Did I buy the wrong
laptop again !?

Well, on my Compaq I never tried to get hibernation working, but at
least suspend worked ok, so I was able to travel around Europe without 
shutting down all the time. That is exactly what I am looking for
currently, I hate to shut down.

I can't see any option in the BIOS to switch hibernation off. Maybe it 
is a solution to delete the hibernation file. I will give it a try.
