I agree that it would be nice if Linux could be made to work with these new Windows 98-specific BIOSes. Downgrading the BIOS may not even be an option on the newer Thinkpads. But if it's any comfort, suspend still worked in Windows 98 after I downgraded the BIOS on the aforementioned 385XD. (It seemed to have trouble resuming when an E-Mu synthesizer card was inserted, but that may be an unrelated problem.)
