If this is a distribution cd like redhat, you cannot simply copy the files off
the cd to your hard drive in windows, and then burn them to cd. it wont work.
This is because the redhat cd and i would assume the others too have been
recorded using the rock ridge extensions, which include unix permissions, and
long filenames. i know they include unix permissions because it has tricked me
up once before. u may think that the permissions probably dont matter because
u run the install as root anyway. but it does matter, because even if u r
root, if a file hasnt got execute permission, root still can't execute the
file. so bare this in mind.
Most CDR software allows you to take an iso9660 image directly off an existing
CD, and write it to disk. If you can find this feature in your HP software,
then all you have to do, is after dumping the physical iso image of the
linux cd, then mount your blank cdr and open that same physical image as an
external image. i know that elektroson's gear cdr software allows this. this
is the only way really to do it, and i have copied quite a few redhat
distributions this way.
i hope this helps.
regards
Damien.

Well I have a 25MHz '486 with 16M ram and exactly the same slow-X
symptoms. I can see that it's not swapping, so I have put it down
to my old video card (a Genoa "GVGA"). As the card isn't specifically
supported I have to use a generic server which doesn't help.

Hello,
I successfully started mgetty in /etc/inittab and my RH6.0 is receiving Fax
and data now, but can not take voice messages. What else I need to enable
the vgetty? How to start vgetty, in /etc/inittab too?
I could not find any info for that. Could you point me to the right

Has anyone else noticed that ~/.inputrc isn't read by programs that
use readline, e.g. bash in Readhat-6.0?
Is this a know bug, or is it just me?

If you've got an existing CD that you want to copy, you just need to make
a disk copy (aka image copy, CD-to-CD copy, etc.). How you do it with the
software you've got I don't know, however. Basically, you'll be copying
the filesystem "raw," rather than copying files one at a time. This will
avoid the problem of NT not understanding Rock Ridge, since NT (or, more
precisely, the CD-R software) just needs to understand bits and the CD-R
drive.

I just downloaded VNC. It worked the first time for the server running on
95 and the viewer running on RH5.2. However, I seem to always get a blank
greenish window going the other way, 95 viewer, RH52. server. Same with
viewer on RH5.2 and server on RH5.2. I'm sure I'm missing something dumb.

Either that program specificly wants QT version 1.3 (you've got 1.42)
OR the qt-1.42-3rh51 package does not contain the headers of the
library, in wich case you have to look for a 'devel' package of qt and
install that first.

Hmmm...ok...my system doesn't seem to be able to find ldconfig...this is

Have a look at the SMP.FAQ. I am writing this on a Dual Xeon PII 400
which
is running an SMP kernel. Here is the output of dmesg on this machine.
Memory: sized by int13 0e801h
Intel MultiProcessor Specification v1.1
Virtual Wire compatibility mode.
OEM ID: INTEL Product ID: 440GX APIC at: 0xFEE00000
Processor #0 Pentium(tm) Pro APIC version 17
Processor #1 Pentium(tm) Pro APIC version 17
I/O APIC #2 Version 17 at 0xFEC00000.
Processors: 2
BTW The 2.1.XX kernels have better support for SMP but I am running OK
on a
2.0.36-3 Kernel.

I believe you can get round this by chhosing expert mode in fdisk (x) and
manually entering the correct number of cylinders for the drive.

So? It's a false dichotomy. There is more to software
