You are, of course, correct. You would think with all my years of using
Latin I could at least spell correctly. But then, I tend to make the
same kind of mistakes in english as well.
All the best.

Sorry, Mladden, Redhat did not license the metroX server for 5.2. However,
JPC, all is not lost. Surf over to Redhat and grab the XFree86 3.3.3.1 RPM
upgrade. I don't know if the Rage II is specifically supported, but it
will drive your card.

You need to follow the instructions at the top of isapnp.conf, you haven't
uncommented the details for your modem therefore it isn't being initialised.

Yes you can setup NT to "autologon" any user you choose, even administrator.
The only critiria is that the user must have a password, no blank passwords.
It doesn't work very nice, but you can do it. I know because I have done
it on many NT boxes for customers that specifically asked for it.

Soft linux work fine and I have used them. Anoynmous and guest ftp
users are chroot()ed into a subtree to limit their activities. Any
soft linux can not climb of this root directory---if they could the
chroot() feature would lose rather a lot of the security value. I
presume this is your problem.
Their are two solutions I can think of off-hand:
Solution 1: Mount your win 95 partition within the reachable subtree and
use a symlink where you think it is.
Solution 2: Export your win 95 partitiion with NFS to the local box
only and mount it, with wahtever restrictions you told NFS to apply,
where ftpd can find it after chroot()ing itself.

In windows my monitor (after some time when I don't touch any
keys/mouse) turns on the screen saving and later it switches to
saving mode (lower-power standby it's called in Display Properties)
and uses its built-in power managment system (consumes less power,
power indicator changes color).
How can I do this in Linux, too?
Maybe anybody at least saw where to read about it on web, because i

I have a Panasonic PT-101Y projector that claims to be able to display
up to 900 scan lines through it's RGB inputs. However, I have been
unable to get this projector to display anything at all throug it's RGB
inputs from a computer. I have a vga -> RGB cable hooked up between the
progector and the computer.
I beleive the problem is it's refresh rates. Most modern monitors have
fairly decent scan rates. However, I looked at the manual I have and it
has these specs:
Horizontal: 15.75 +- .75 khz
Vertical: 45 - 75 Hz
I figure that it's my card that can't work in this range. XFree86's
setup program 'XF86Setup doesn't even display Horizontal refresh rates
below 20 or 30 as I remember. Does anyone know if there is a video card
that worked in this range and if XFree will have a problem doing this
resolution?. The projector is capable of 900+ scan lines so I figure if
I can get a card that can work in the proper range, I should be able to
get 1024x768 and 1152x900 etc...
How can I get this to work?

Hello,
I want to use WinNT 4.0 and Linux to share the same data partition on a
disk. (size 9GB). The problem is that Linux does not support NTFS in the
"normal" distribution of the Kernel 2.036. On the other side WinNT does
not recognize ext2fs from Linux.
For FAT32 a special driver for WinNT is needed. Also the file attributes
rwx from Linux ar not supported on the FAT32. This is a problem when
running shell scripts from FAT32 on Linux.
What would be the best solution to share the large data?
Any suggestions?
Thank You!

This is becoming a FAQ. I bet you copied your .config file from a
previous kernel, and using "make xconfig" ?

There's your problem. Click "Console drivers" and enable the VGA
console.

191.1.1.5 is from a reserved block according to IANA.
So while not the proper address at least it won't route anywhere.

You can't use chmod on a DOS partition because the FAT filesystem has no concept
of file permissions. You have to use an option to the mount command to set
the owner and/or group and/or file permissions for the FAT filesystem.
mount -t msdos -o umask=000 /dev/hda1 /dos
would mount your C:\ drive at the mount point /dos with read/write permission
for everyone. Read the man page for mount for more information.

actualy wouldn't it be better to use /bin/cp -f instead of /bin/mv?
That way you wouldn't have to recreate the .limited and .unlimited files
everyday. (the -f would do this without output to your e-mail by
forcing theoverwrite).

I notice that in the 2.2.7 kernel, NTFS read/write support appears to
have gone from "experimental, use at your own risk" to, well, it isn't
there any more. Draw your own conclusions.

MOUNT(8) Linux Programmer's Manual MOUNT(8)
NAME
mount - mount a file system
SYNOPSIS
mount [-hV]
mount -a [-fFnrsvw] [-t vfstype]
mount [-fnrsvw] [-o options [,...]] device | dir
mount [-fnrsvw] [-t vfstype] [-o options] device dir
DESCRIPTION
All files accessible in a Unix system are arranged in one
big tree, the file hierarchy, rooted at /. These files
can be spread out over several devices. The mount command
serves to attach the file system found on some device to
the big file tree. Conversely, the umount(8) command will
detach it again.
The standard form of the mount command, is
mount -t type device dir
The above is taken from man mount
Thus you would mount your partition as follows:
mount -t ext2 dev/hda4 dir
Where "dir" is the directory name you want to mount it on. Depending on
how you have your partitions set up, this will change. For example, if
dev/hda4 is a separate /usr partition, the command would be.
mount -t ext2 dev/hda4 /usr
If you just have one great big partition, it would be
mount -t ext2 dev/hda4 /
Hope this helps.
