look at Redhat's ftp server, 'ftp.redhat.com' in the '/pub/contrib'
directory. You will have to do a little searching from there, but you are
looking for the freefonts and sharefonts tar files, which both contain a
number of good fonts specifically for linux and your X server.

The option s is for a multi-file dump tape, I think you must use the device
"no rewind" (/dev/nrst0 probably) ; in a Sun I usually d'ont use the 's' in
the dump command. but I use the command "mt -f /device_norewind fsf number"
for positioning the tape over the file I need and that I execute the restore
-if /device_no_rewind

This isn't too far off, actually. If everything worked perfectly,
you'd only need to know the GUI, but it doesn't work perfectly. So,
you definitely need to know the user interface, but you also need to
understand the differences between the various incompatible Word file
formats and RTF (e.g., if text is suddenly missing), you need to know
something about TrueType and Type 1 fonts (e.g., if Arial is printed
as Helvetica, or vice versa), and you need to know what kind of
printer you have and which driver to use for it (e.g., if the
linebreaks have suddenly changed).
It's really not as simple as it seems at first glance (menus and
colorful icons), and that _may_ be why corporate IT departments have
to provide hotlines for their Word users.

xplaycd insists that the last track of every CD I have is "data" and refuses
to play it. The only other cd playing program I currently have is cdp, which
does play all of the tracks including the last one. Am I missing some sort
of setup thing or is this a bug? And is there a home page for xplaycd?
I'm running Red Hat 6. xplaycd claims to be version 2.1. My CD-ROM is
actually a Creative 6X DVD, which I suspect shouldn't matter (or else cdp
wouldn't work either).

Assuming you've installed the rpm, then you'll likely just need to
update /etc/inted.conf to get inetd to start handling identd requests.
You'll need a line, in inetd.conf that looks like this:
auth stream tcp nowait nobody /usr/sbin/in.identd in.identd -l -e -o
To inetd to recognize the change, do a "kill -HUP XXX" where XXX is
the process id of the currently running inetd process.

Hi,
Here my problem :
I have a computer with redhat 6.0 and an other with a redhat 5.2
When i compile a program on redhat6.0 he crashs (SEGMENTATION FAULT) on the
redhat 5.2.
But when i compile it into redhat5.2 it works. So i think it's a library
problem, when i execute "ldd myprogram" :
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40018000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00000000)
where is the problem ?
Maybe a compilation option to use old library (redhat 5.2) ??
Thanks a lot for your help.

Bout that is unavoidable as many continental pronounciations are

It doesn't "certainly show" that. It *suggests* it, but it doesn't show
it. Suppose we both have dice, and I roll five 6s and you roll five 1s -
does that show that the dice are loaded? No - it suggests it, but it's
hardly proof. Coincidences happen. You've had five RedHat installations
go wrong - I've had five RedHat installations go perfectly smoothly,
including one on a laptop where it was notoriously difficult to install
NT.

I was getting a bus error. What I had to do is check dependencies going
into the directory where netscape executable resides and typing ldd
netscape. That gave me a list of links needed. I made a directory
/usr/local/lib/netscape, since my program is installed in /usr/local.
Then I made soft links in that directory to the places indicated in the
output from the ldd command.
I also needed a couple other libraries which came in a fix and I'm using
the script which came from there too. Doesn't sound like you need that
though. I guess you will find out if you do the link/links you need and
then find out it still doesn't work.
The fix, which I understand should not be needed for 4.61 is at
ftp://24.2.168.186/pub/linux/Netscape/fixes/nets-2.0.tar.gz It has some
libc5 libraries.

Making it impossible for other people to fix problems doesn't solve
the problems involved in doing so.

Why are the files in /usr/bin (and other places) have the ownership of

Well shit dewd, where have YOU been? Well, maybe you aren't old
enough to remember Allenda, and the United Fruit Company, and Arbenz

Hughes Telecom was also instrumental in the overthrow of Allende.
Then there is the little fact that Columbia's death squads are funded
and trained by U.S. military, and happen to have a death and
disappearance rate comparable to that in Kosovo prior to NATOs
destruction of Yugoslavia.
BTW, I think Kulisz means Haiti. An island with a very long history
of foreign destruction, including several U.S. invasions. Aristide is
the president of Haiti, not Tahiti.
Colonialism and Imperialism do not mean outright ownership,
particularly not this late int he 20th century. You can look at the
way we enforce different economic structures on these countries to see
things very similiar in the way that Britain forced India into an
export economy so they could not sustain themsleves and became
dependent upon their British exporters. NAFTA and it's effect on
Mexico are very telling in this respect.
Check out Chomsky's "The Washington Connection: The U.S. and Third

Those questions are coming directly from Windows(tm).
Linux is good. bad, indifferent on the level of the person banging on the
keyboard.
The underlaying kernel is the same in all distros.
The other parts are cosmetics, and you HAVE TO invest some effort
(meaning learning) to make most of it.
The installation procedure is only the fist part, if it is too easy then you
have
learned nothing in your first meeting with the new OS and every problem
catches you unprepared.
>From various distros that visited my screen during last three years I chose
Slakware as my workhorse, and S.u.S.E as secondary distro.
Both reside on my disks, together with Windows95.
And speaking of disks. Do yourself a favor.
Sit down before the new box and partition your drives before installing
either OS. (The Windows CD is included in the price - of course).
And then install and compare Windows and lets say S.u.S.E .
Suse wins hands down on the number of boots you need to install
the OS. (So do other distros too).
So now is the time to order your admin. hat and start behaving as
the rightful owner of the property you bought.
And don't forget to get from the supplier technical specs on everything
that is thrown in the case.
Winmodem - God forbid!!!
Go Linux and start enjoying computers.

I've got the same trouble. If you take a look in your home directory

Hi,
I've got a tricky problem and I wonder if some one
could advise me on it.
I have Slack 3.something (can't remember, it came
with 2.0.30 kernel) running on PII. I upgraded to 2.0.36
and I tried to go to 2.2.x and all latest modules by
installing a fresh Slack 4.0. However, for some mysterious
reason setup procedure (I'm using bare.i and color.gz)
can't recognize DMA for my (PrimaryMaster) WDC.
A few days ago I installed the same Slack 4.0 on another
PC, which in fact has very similar HW configuration
together with current one, and the only difference
I can see is motherboard. Install succeded with Pentium
200 on LTX but failed with PII on SE440BX-2.
I'm getting something like "DMA disabled" or something
during installation (and I noticed that loading of the ramdisk
takes way too much then usually).
Is there anything I can do to get my DMA back together
with Slack 4.0 ? Of course I can update all modules and
kernel piece by piece instead of just one installation, but
somehow I'm not too happy with such solution :-)
Andrei
