This is going to be an issue for me because my company requires version
control. i've been using home site, and eventually we'll have to do to
do version control on an apache server. i had a question though about
emacs. i've read a little about it and i know it's versatile. What
is "emacs in html-mode"? Can you explain?

I'm running Windows 98(SE) on a 20.5GB hard disk with a primary and an ext.
partition (C: and D:). I tried installing Red Hat 6.1 and I had this "boot
partition too big " problem while attempting to add a mount point for /, but
no problems for /usr...etc.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about (cause I don't know if I make any
sense) I'd gladly hear from you.
Thanks a million.

Have some fun and go to your local computer show, and find the cheapest card
around. Then the real fun starts. I happened to pick up a couple 10/100
cards for $7.50 each. Work fine in win 98 but with Linux was a little more
difficult. The tulip.o driver should haved worked, but I had to step back
to it predecessor DEC2x45 ( or something like that) since then everything
flies.
Good luck

As sound not working in Windows is not a Linux problem, I would
recommend asking for help in one of the Windows newsgroups.
My quick guess is that you changed the PnP OS setting in your BIOS and
now Windows is looking in the wrong place for the sound card.

LIL- The descriptor table is corrupt. This can either be caused
by a geometry mismatch or by moving /boot/map without running
the map installer.
You might try removing the lilo package and then reinstalling
it.

Can anyone tell me why most Linuc distributions aren't preocompiled
so that the ATAPI support is automatically built in, rather than
getting most people to play around with kernel configurations?
The number of people wanting to use ATAPI for their IDE HDs and
their CD drives is hardly a minority anymore.
I am sure there is some good reason, but it doesn't seem to make
itself apparent at the moment.

Hopefully this is less clueless that is typical of the Linux newbie.
I have a ton of word 6.0 and word 98 documents. I would like to
convert them to plain ascii texts and then format them to have line
breaks every 72 columns. Is it too much to ask that there be a program
that will do this without having me open them all up in word and
resave them?
Thanks in advance.

I've found that many mt commands don't work as expected with
the tape drives I've used under Linux. For example, if
you create successive tar archives using /dev/nst0 you find
that fsf won't work. They all seem to be part of file 0.
The only solution I've found, which seems to work is to
use mt -f /dev/nst0 weof after each tar archive is written.
Then I can use mt -f /dev/nst0 fsf N where N has to be twice
the number of archives to skip. If you keep track of
the number, then you should be able to place the tape after the
last archive. But you should try some experiments.
Since there are obviously deficiencies in mt, these problems
may be resolved in later relases.

When trying to install gcc on my Linux mandrake 6.0 I'm told that I
need to have binutils in a path that gcc can find. I've installed
binutils but I can't find it anywhere on my HD. RPM program says it's in
an area called "Tools" and so is on the HD.
My question is: How do I find it in order to put it in a path that gcc
recognizes? Or is there something else that needs to be done so gcc can
find it? I'm new to Linux, so please keep it simple. Thank you very
much.

Subject: Controlling audio CD changer from Linux?
Date: 9 Mar 2000 17:26:30 GMT
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Folks,
Last weekend I was visiting the local Audio/Video store and was
intrigued by a new device they had. I forgot the name of the company,
but the device can control Audio CD changer (200+ CDs in one player).
You can catalog and search/play each CD by title, movie, singer etc
and even program the sequence in which you want to play the songs. It
was able to connect to internet via built-in modem so that you can
download the icons for the Album cover, while you are bworsing your
collection it can show you the album cover. The video/output was sent
to the TV. it had a wireless keyboard with built in track ball. It
had 9-pin serial port in the back and a special cable that plugged
into the serial port of the device and the controller input of the CD
changer. I was ready to buy it until I asked for the price ($3000.00
for audio and $5000 for DVD).
I am sure it can be easily written in C, Tcl/Tk or perl/Tk on linux
for lot less money.
Is there a standard command set for the CD changers? Apparently this
device can control CD changer from any manufacturer.
I am thinking of using my old PC (90Mhz Pentium) with a cheap video
card that can be connected to the TV, and writing a software to
control the CD and DVD changer.
Has anybody looked into this and point me in right direction?

That is Samba. Since Samba is a tool to interact with Windows machines, it
has to have a way to work around the Windows' annoyances.
Apache has nothing to do with Windows, so there is no need to do
it. If you have just moved your pages from a Windows box, and the
links don't correspond to the actual filenames, then it is not
Apache's fault. It is either the fault of the filesystem of the
Windows machine (case insensitiveness), or the coder who didn't
take care of it.
