Hi *
Does anyone know if there is something like the
Sun conference tool "Sun Forum" for Linux.
You can also setup a conference with M$ Netmeeting
and everything works audio, video even sharing and
collaborating of programs works

Eh? How can I get more specific than THAT without knowing his

The trivial exercise of filling in said info and modifying the

This might look a bit far fetched but I am really intrested in knowing
if any one out here knows anything about some possibility to port VB
code to LINUX(or any other UNIX version for that matter).May be some
cross compiler to convert VB to UNIX/C ?

Thanks again. I'll just recopy everything onto a cdr --I'm also

Thank you for the thorough explanation, and the second hyphothesis is probo
ably the right one, or I've not mastered Nero and my writer yet. My CD-rom
drive on the machine running Corel Linux must be over three years old --
the computer is nearly three. I'll just recopy everything onto a cdr --I'm
also unsuccessfully (so far) wrangling with an ATAPI Iomega zip drive that
I'd like to mount under Linux. Yes, I've read in the Linux 'how-to' book I
bought that removable drives do not function correctly under Linux.
However,I'm trying to implement information found on the Web and still
have plenty to do just to master Linux with its friendly Corel x-window
shell. I reluctantly (for want of drivers) gave up on OS2 Warp in the late
80's and have found that same pleasure of discovery, challenge and
independence now with Linux.
Thanks again.

1. Why does the at the URL below end with .gz?
I tried gunzip-ping this patch and it says its not a gzip file.
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.0/patch-2.0.33.gz
2. If I run
patch -p0 < patch-2.0.33.gz
as told in the Kernel-HOWTO, I get an error saying something like
'hmm...this appears to be a recursive...(something)'
and basically all my hunks end up failing to patch.
Any advice/place to get tips?
I'm using Red Hat 5, Linux 2.0.32, and want to patch up to 2.0.35
so I can use my zip disk. Thanks a lot.

Hello,
I am trying to set up a intranet news server in my machine. In
this server, no Usenet news will be relayed, but it'll be used only for
discussions in our intranet. I am using Red Hat 6.1 in a P-II. I am trying
to use inn 2.2.1 to accomplish this. I installed inn and inn-devel, then
edited /etc/news/inn.conf as per the man pages, added a few groups, and
edited /etc/news/nnrp.access where I added a line
*:Read Post:::*
to allow everybody in our intranet to grant access (our intranet is beyond
a firewall).
But whenever we try to connect to the news server machine through netscape,
we get a prompt for username & password, and whatever we give there, we get
an error "authentication error".
How do I make it work? Any suggestions?
Thank you very much in advance,
-Kousik Nandy

Yeah right! uhhh... like which part was he not specific
enough about anyway? He doesn't know what $SERVERS should
be set to, or what "pass" is or what "user" is... so why
are you being vague about what is not specific enough?

>vtXXX TERM entries instead: the simplest is "vt100". You can do this by
>running
>
>$ env TERM=vt100 telnet some.other.host
That will certainly work, though with only one variable to set
there is no real need to use the env command to envoke telnet.
Just
$ TERM=vt100 telnet host.domain
will do the trick. See the man page for console_code (right at
the end of the man page, so if you're not interested in all the
various control codes, just skip to the end and back up a page
or so) for a discussion of the differences between a "linux"
terminal and a vt100, a vt102, and a xterm.
There might be a better way to approach the problem however. It
depends of what is at the distant host. If it is a UNIX machine
(and maybe if it is something else, but that is out of my range)
then it is possible for a user to provide their own private
TERMINFO or TERMCAP database, and that could be done with a
"linux" terminal defined. The advantage is that the terminal
will be matched precisely, and not be an almost (which is the
best one can do with various vt100/xterm/etc. terminal
descriptions). The disadvantage is that it does take a small
effort to learn how to do it.
The trick is to set up a private database in the user's home
directory. You can make a directory ~/lib/terminfo or just
~/terminfo for example, and put it there. (If the other system
is termcap based you may need to replace "terminfo" with
"termcap" in this discussion.) Also, if the other end uses
ncurses then the directory ~/.terminfo should be used. If it is
not ncurses, then in the ~/.profile the variable TERMINFO (or
TERMCAP) should be set to the directory used.
TERMINFO=$HOME/lib/terminfo
Then, with that variable set, fetch an ascii text version of
every terminal type that needs to be supported, either from that
system or in the case of the linux terminal from your linux box.
(If the other system is ncurses based, you only need to add
terminals not already supported.) Do that with the infocmp
program,
$ infocmp linux > linux.terminfo
That file can then be transfered to the other system, and placed
into the TERMINFO database by using tic,
$ tic linux.terminfo
Bingo, that system now supports the linux terminal type.
It might be worth requesting the system administrator to put it
into the system database, as obviously that is going to be a
more commonly seen problem. You can supply the linux.terminfo
file above.

At work we are going to have a leased line and a 'proper' router (not the

I will be networking my Linux box to this - but how to I get it to use the
leased line - do I configure the NT box as a gateway - and how do I do this
(especially concerning Email - although I may just download that myself and
not allow the NT box to do it).
Also, at home I have connected my RH6.1 box to my Win98SE PC and the Windoze
box can see the Linux box in Network Neighbourhood and share the files etc.,
but how do I get to the Windoze box's files from the Linux box? Someone
mentionned you have to do a smb:// in kfm or use NFS or something?
TIA ;o)

Sorry for the HTML, my mistake.
The script is no secret, it's in the McAfee manual.
And the .netrc file looks like this:
machine ftp.nai.com
login anonymous
password [EMAIL PROTECTED]
macdef init
cd pub/antivirus/datfiles/4.x
bin
prompt
mget dat-*.tar

This should be triggered in an .sh script when "ftp ftp.nai.com" is called.
Works fine from the command line.
Best regards!
