Depending on how you're going to get the files, you might get into trouble
with the 9.1.2 installation, as the RPM for this version is in the RPM 4
format and RH 6.2 uses the previous format -- and it is not that simple to
upgrade RPM from previous versions to version 4 as the latter is distributed
in (guess what) version 4 format.
I've tried both and 9.1.2 does provide better protection and, unless you've
got a major installation, it is not that difficult to adapt the
configuration files.
But if the main purpose of the upgrade is protection from the BIND worm
(and, to my knowledge, any known attacks on BIND), just stick to version
8.2.3 -- it works well and is a plug in replacement for any previous version
8.x (at least).
In short form, I would advise you to get version 8.2.3 unless you need the
new features of version 9.

As DOS (i.e. FAT/VFAT) partitions do not hold any user information, they are
collectively set for all files by the mount command. If you do not specify
any options, the owner/group for all files are taken from the process (i.e.
user) that runs the mount command.
The default behaviour can be changed with the following options: uid=UserID
and gid=GroupID, like "mount -t vfat -o uid=100,gid=500 /dev/fd
/mnt/floppy". Observe that uid= and gid= does not take user or group names
(you cannot say uid=root). If you mount through fstab (like "mount
/mnt/floppy"), you can specify the options in the fourth field of
"/etc/fstab".

Don't flame me, if I'm stupid, but I've never heard of an ANAME, sure you're
not thinking of a DNS alias, a CNAME?
I'll answer from the assumption that you're talking about an alias, so be
warned :-)
The answer is no, you cannot have your FTP server make distinctions based on
the DNS *name* only on the IP-address. The reason for this is that FTP does
not send any information about the *name* it tries to connect to, in
contrast to HTTP. An HTTP request contains the name of the server the
request is for, which makes it possible for the web-server to direct the
request to the right virtual path -- not so for FTP, alas.
I hope this is what you asked about and that the information is enough for
you.

If I understand right, you could do it like this:
mkdir foobar
for i in foo bar; do cd $i; cp -pr . ../foobar; cd ..; done
Or...you could do, based on your attempt above:
rm -rf foobar
cp -a foo foobar
cp -a bar/. foobar
Note I'm not using a wildcard - instead I use '.' to say the directory.

Date: Mon, 07 May 2001 09:52:39 -0700
Hi:
I have KDE 2.0.1 on Suse 7.1. I set the panel to autohide. However,
frequently (about 10% of the time) when I move the mouse pointer to the
bottom edge of the screen, the panel doesn't un-hide.
Any ideas about this or how to fix?
Thanks.

I'm using Caldera 2.4 with KDE 2.1.1. When I bring up a terminal window
in KDE the cursor does not blink. It there a way to have it blink like
it does at the console? Also how can I make it an underline instead of a
block.

-a could be better since it includes the -d (don't dereference links) and
-p (preserve permissions) as well as -R (recurse into subdirectories).

It's a feature of the ls command, not of the xterm. 'man ls' shows that
you can use 'ls --color=never'. This is best set up as an alias in your
~/.bashrc:
alias ls='ls --color=never'

LILO release 21.7.5 is based upon Werner Almesberger's LILO version 21.
Version 21.7.5 is a bugfix release.
Version 21.7 adds support for higher serial line rates.
Version 21.6 is an upgrade for users of the Reiser File System, and adds
new diagnostic capabilities. Internal changes allow booting kernels with
larger real-mode setup codes (2.4.0 and later).
Source code is available for download from:
ftp://brun.dyndns.org/pub/linux/lilo (developer's site)
Or from the main distribution site:
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo (please use)
See the distribution file 'CHANGES' for details of the differences between
21.7.5 and prior releases.

Warning: I have very limited db experience.
Fastest: mysql.
More features: postgresql.
On www.mysql.org they have some comparison among databases if I
rememeber well...

Of course, you can (I usually do), but read `man 5 XF86Config` first - a
format of the file is changed somewhere.

Well, I spent the afternoon having 'fun' with Pan LOL
The usual business of not having the right version of rpm , and then
going for the source and then being told that I don't have the gnome
libraries installed (which I do but somehow the file isn't where the
configure script wants it.....
Right now the idea of a console based newsreader is looking better and
better!
Thanks for all your help though
