Hi all,
does anyone know of a program package for patient management,
keeping records, ICD 10 classification and statistics running
under Linux? Billing functions are not paramount, but the
localization should include Germany.
TIA, Christoph Hammann

Do anyone have experiences with this card?

There is a project underway called Freemed. The info should be
available at http://www.freemed.org/ . There also are links to
other similar or related projects, many of which are funded by EU.

The German localized variant is planned, but I don't know the
current status of it.

I've released a new version of my rc.firewall script. As always, you can get
it from <http://www.jsmoriss.dyndns.org/linux/rc.firewall>. This version
enables outgoing (active) FTP data transfers. I found this problem when
trying to FTP between two firewalls. :-)
I've also put up a mailing list to discuss the script, and let everyone know
when new versions are available. You can subscribe by sending an e-mail to
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" with "subscribe firewall" as the BODY of your
message.

I have a strange problem that I can't quite figure out what is going on,
so I'm hoping that someone may have an idea.
I have Red Hat 6.1 up and running on my box. I had no problems with
installation, now my problems are when I leave it up and running over the
night. Every morning that I wake up somehow the time in Linux falls back
exactly 6 hours. It's not my system clock getting chagend because when I
reboot and check the bios clock it is right on "time". Then I continue to
boot into Linux and then the correct time is then reset and all is fine.
So sometime between the wee hours in the morning and when I get up I'm
losing 6 hours off my clock.
I'm kind of new to Linux, but I do have a good grasp on it I'm just not
sure where to begin looking for the problem. If anyone could lend me hand
it would be much appreciated.
Thanks-

There's a package called "idled" (Idle Daemon) which will do it for you.
I don't know if it comes with any distributions, but I think it is likely
to be found on sunsite, er, ah, I mean metalab. If not, try doing a search

Does the Linux kernel used by TIVO go by the GPL license?
If it does, where can I download it from?
I'm particularly interested in the fact that the kernel has been
modified to use unbuffered filesystem which means an ungraceful
shut off of the machine will not require the execution of
the usually time consuming fsck upon the next booting. Thanks.

cp the file from windows (I think it's bookmark.htm) to your linux-drive
into your .netscape/ directory and name it bookmarks.html. That's all.
And don't post html into NG's, and when using html for whatever yuo

Hello,
I made a logging section of my named.conf section to limit some of the
logging. But, I get an error when I start named. Here is the section
of my named.conf file:
logging {
category default { severity notice; };
category statistics { null; };
category lame-servers { null; };
category cname { null; };
category response-checks { null; };
};
And, here is the error message when I start up named:
Mar 10 15:43:33 apple named[18668]: /etc/named.conf:4: syntax error
near severit
y
Mar 10 15:43:33 apple named[18668]: /etc/named.conf:4: unknown channel
'notice'
So, what do I have set wrong? Also, what is the difference between
warning and notice under the severity section?
Thanks,

First thing is to make absolutely sure that you have a Diva and not a Diva
Pro. The Pro uses a AMD DSP chip to interface instead of the Sieman's HDLC
interface chip. The HiSax driver is incompatible with the Diva Pro.

Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 18:35:37 GMT
hello!
yesterday i gave this command as root in /root directory:
#ls -l .*
the intention was to list all hidden files/dirs. but it listed a whole
lot more, and one thing caught my eye. in the dir .netscape/ i saw a
strange symlink. like this:
lrwxrwxrwx root root ... lock -> 194.42.252.142:1098
and the filename was blinking white text on a red background (i got the
color option in the ls command on auto as an alias).
what is that ?!?!
the file was created at boottime according to the stated time by ls -l.
and when i checked the same today after boot, it was the same as before,
except the port was/is 687 instead off 1098.
is netscape taking liberties upon my computer? :)
or has someone else been messing with my computer, some computervandal.
as far as i know port 1098 is outside the standardized interval, and 687
is... didnt find.
i mean, this is about ports right?
is something blocking/locking them?
is there communication going on?
thanks in adv. / alex

Install Esound on the computer with soundcard, the configure XMMS to use
the EsounD output plugin (there you can set a remote computer to use).

This is discussed around p. 147 of the O'Reilly book _DNS and BIND_ 3rd
edition. It appears that the "category" statement tells _where_ error
messages should go, but "severity" and "notice" don't have any "where to
go" significance. To indicate what should go somewhere you need the
"channel" statement. Here is an example copied from the book:
: logging {
: channel my_file {
: file "log.msgs";
: severity dynamic;
: print-category yes;
: print-severity yes;
: }
:
: category default { default_syslog; my_file; };
: category panic { default_syslog; my_file; };
: category packet { my_file; };
: category eventlib { my_file; };
: category queries { my_file; };
: };
> Also, what is the difference between
> warning and notice under the severity section?
The books says that the top five severity levels (critical|error|
warning|notice|info) are the same as used by syslog(8).

Subject: Help with Mysql
Date: 11 Mar 2000 14:27:10 -0500
I need some helping getting my Mysql libraries straight ;-) I have the databaseitself
set up fine. I can connect, set up securities, query, etc. The problem
comes in when I try to write a client in C and link in (or as in my case, not) the
libraries. Ultimately I would like to be using the C++ API. I already got it to
compile with no problems (execpt for the examples, they got linking errors)
I am running Redhat 6.0 on an Intel machine at 400mhz with 64 mb RAM.
I am not sure that the problem is with the Mysql package, rather it is my lack of
knowledge about linking libraries. I am desperate for a solution so I will
propose this deal - I will offer a free shell account to the first person who
helps me solve this problem. Please drop me a line and work with me on this, I am out
of ideas myself... Thanks in advance.
- Matt
Btw - I can program in c/c++ (as learned in college CIS program), and I use Informix
and now VB where I work. I want to develop some things at home for Linux, which is
why I want to get Mysql working right.

Netscape uses the lock file to avoid running several instances of the
same browser on a single cache and certificate set. The lock file should
should be a symlink and `point' to a network address (presumably so that
the newly created instances of Netscape can communicate with the running
one and/or check it's still alive).
> and the filename was blinking white text on a red background (i got the
> color option in the ls command on auto as an alias).
I guess it indicates a broken symlink. Since there isn't a file
194.42.252.142:1098 , the symlink `lock' points to nowhere and it's
usually useful to notice such cases.
> the file was created at boottime according to the stated time by ls -l.
> and when i checked the same today after boot, it was the same as before,

It looks like Netscape is being run as root at the boottime.
(By the way, running such a thing as Netscape as root is almost always
a bad idea.)
> or has someone else been messing with my computer, some computervandal.
> as far as i know port 1098 is outside the standardized interval, and 687

Both of them are privileged unspecified ports. When a port is opened
as root and not bound to a specific number, the port numbers are always
privileged, so it makes sense they're Netscape's inter-instance communicating
ports.

Sure enough I will, and of course I do know that a even a tiny typo in
this context could screw up the target disk beyond recovery...
> You probally don't want to try this with a dial-up and a partition
> of any reasonable size, it'd probally be cheaper and faster to mail

The approach is also considered for use within a 100MBit/s Ethernet, so
there are actually no worries about the transmission time and cost ;-)
However, as I said in the earlier message, the one thing I *dont* want
to do is make an *image file*; Id rather like "the network" itself to
be the destination, so I will not need the extra space for storing the
(even compressed) partition anywhere. However I do not know exactly how
it could be done, maybe theres something like a named pipe over TCP/IP?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
