People... Guess what form of governance is known today, around the
world, as a "Democratic Republic"... Any guesses?
That is the "modern" term for a communistic system of governance.
Wake up, read up, arm up, they're coming for US next!

I'm happy with it, being a casual user that likes to tinker once in a while.
Surf the internet, listen to mp3s, and serves as the gateway so my Winbox can
share its internet connection. What do you intend to use it for anyway? BTW,
I found their website www.mandrakeuser.org extremely helpful when I had

that it's not stable yet).
You can read more on <URL:http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd/> and

There is a problem in one of the installation RPMS that is causing many
systems to not have a complete list of fontpath for X to use.
To see if this is the problem you are facing, please use the command
chkfontpath --list
You should get output that looks like the following:
Current directories in font path:
1: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled
2: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled
3: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled
4: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc
5: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1
6: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo
You should then add the 75dpi scaled font to your path list using the
command:
chkfontpath --add /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi
This should fix the problem you are seeing.

You can tell Linux the geometry of your disk in your /etc/lilo.conf
file. In the image section add the line:
append="hdd=cyl,head,sector" (put in the actual numbers).

Hi!
Do you know any spreadsheet app, that beside ran as usual spreadsheet app,
can also run 'faceless': accepting input from and sending output to other
program / script.
It can run either as a batch application - called by a script - or as a
faceless server. Or are there other possibilities?
Obviously the model should still be editable using GUI interface, either
that program itself or other spreadsheet program. Excel compatibility will
be nice.
TIA.

remove it .. but I don't know how exactly..

Subject: Problem with LILO and 2 hard drive configuration
Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 13:06:01 -0500
Hi there,
Here's my setup. I have an old 486 motherboard with a BIOS that does not
support large hard drive > 504MB. I have one 504MB drive (hda) with a 500mb
primary extfs2 partition (hda1) that dos NOT cross over the 1024 cylinder. I
also have one 10GB drive (hdb) with one 10GB primary extf2 partition (hdb2).
Booting Linux (Redhat 6.2) off the floppy disk that was created during the
installation of Redhat works fine, albeit very slow. I would like to be able
to boot my Linux system off the 500MB partition (hda1). I tried to install
LILO on the MBR of the 500MB and boot off hda1 but all I get when it tries
to boot off the hard drive is one letter 'L' (I'm guessing its the beginning
on 'LILO') and then the system just hangs there.
Here's my setup:
I have copied the following files to the 500MB partition from the 10GB
(hdb2).
/boot/boot.b
/boot/map
/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-5.0
/etc/lilo.conf
This is what the lilo.conf looks like
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
linear
default=linux
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-5.0
label=linux
read-only
root=/dev/hdb2
vga = 1
Can anyone give me any suggestions?
Thanks.

If you're running it in an xterm, then your TERM needs to be set to
xterm for it to work straight (or you may be lucky). Why exactly are

Two options:
Does the printer's network interface speak 'LPD'? If so, it is
just like a remote UNIX printer. Use printtool and select remote unix
printer and give the printer's 'hostname' and the queue name on the
remote printer (might be the same as the hostname -- read the docs for
the printer).
If the printer does not speak 'LPD', then you can install Samba
-- this will make your Linux box understand how to speak to Microsoft's
networking, just like your Windows NT box.

Look around for a program called l0phtcrack (IIRC). I _think_ it can
give you a list of all usernames, and crack all the passwords as a
bonus :-) (Although cracking is the only way you'll get the passwords

Why do you want to set it to vt100?
First understand that TERM only changes what various programs
are told that your terminal can do. It has no effect on what
the terminal actually is capable of doing. TERM provides a
reference to a database of terminal capabilities, and each
description is intended to describe what a particular terminal
can do and how to get it to do it.
By setting TERM to "xterm" you match the "terminal" provided
under X by the xterm emulator. An xterm can do a lot of things
that a vt100 cannot do, and hence there are control sequences
defined that will be used when TERM is set to "xterm" that will
not be used when TERM is set to "vt100".
You might not want to set TERM to vt100. The times when you
might are if you login via telnet or through a serial port and
your terminal/modem program/telnet session is emulating a vt100.
If you do really want to set the TERM variable, /etc/profile is
definitely NOT the place. That affects *all* logins... or at
least those which do not change it later. The correct place is
in the init files for your login shell. Typically Linux users
default to using bash, and the login shell reads the first of
~/.bash_profile, ~/.bash_login, or ~/.profile to be found. Which
ever of those you use should set the TERM variable. Any required
initialization of the terminal (stty commands, etc.) should be
done in that file too, as will be read only at login time and
therefore will happen only once per login.
Note also that on non-login shells those files are not read.
Instead, ~/.bashrc is read for interactive shells, and for
non-interactive shells a file specified by the BASH_ENV variable
is read. Generally there is no point in setting TERM in those
files.

the message had my user name in it. it went like this

I know Caldera has a similar adduser command line utility to NT and it
probably supports csv files. The other distributions probably also have
this utility so just export the user accounts to a Comma Delimited Value.

/usr/sbin/usernetctl ppp0 up
fetchmail
/usr/sbin/usernetctl ppp0 down
then add it to your crontab (man -a crontab for information)
