Regardless of the fan, you should maybe still check the actual
temperature on the CPU. Here in South Africa we had a heat problem now
for about a week (temps of 37 - 42 deg C). Aircon in the office is set
at 20, but some PC's still cut out. Turns out the aircon just can't
cope!

Thanks for the ideas.
The problem isn't with seeing the pages though! It's with the actual
connections (always times out without even starting an access) I
considered a ns prob, but that was OK. I've never bothered disabling
javascript at any time as mozilla (using .6) seems to cope OK.
I'm about to try an older kernel (2.4 t12) as that is the only other
thing I've changed recently... though it's hard to see it making a
difference.

Subject: Q: Altering wav file speed
Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 11:08:28 GMT
I've poked around Deja.com and freshmeat and
haven't seen the specific answer yet...
Here is what I want to do:
1. Rip an audio track from a CD (can do)
2. Save the track as a wav file (can do)
3. Alter the wav file to play at some
arbitrary percentage of normal speed,
say 80% of normal (?????)
4. Write the slower version to disk as a
wav file (??????)
5. Burn original and slow versions of the
wav file to CD (can do)
Are there any tools that can help me with
steps 3 and 4?
Thanks,
Robert

The longer story is that he has stated that he has no preference for how

And neither do I.

OK, its something to do with changing from Kernel 2.4 test 12 to the official
2.4.0 release....
Guess I'll have to scan through this. If anyone has a clue as to what would
cause these symptons, I would much appreciate hearing it!

Subject: Help me to get rid of LILO completely without deleting all partitions
Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 12:34:17 +0100
I tried to install Suse 6.2 on my AThlon TB but it failed. Now I'm stuck
with LI when I boot. I want to completely uninstall LILO but this seems
impossible. I tried FDISK /MBR, SYS C:, and tried the Win2000 recovery
console but the problem keeps returning. The strange thing is that
sometimes my pc boots normally (into win98/2k with NO trace of LILO), and
then the next time it hangs at LI again.
I understand that one solution is to delete all my partitions and start
all over but I don't want that. I just want to uninstall LILO without
using my data. I can't use my SUSE installation cdrom because every time
I get a general protection error while booting the kernel when I boot
from the cdrom, so I can't access the linux partition manager or LILO
configuration.
Is there any way to get rid of LILO without sacrificing my data? Fdisk
(DOS) or FIXMBR (win2k) doesn't work, and as the linux cd aborts with an
error, I havent installed linux yet and I cant access the linux partition
manager. Are there any other tools available?
Please help !

That v2.2.x did not print any messages for this error. It was happening,
just not being reported. Many BP6 boards get errors like this.

If you are overclocking this tends to make the errors happen more often.
I have only been running 2.4.0-test12 for a short while (must upgrade to
2.4.0 final now) but have not seen any APIC errors (yet - fingers crossed)
on my BP6 with 2x 433@433.

Filesystem corruption. Run fsck (or you have been hacked (not as

Or, if your system otherwise boots and runs ok and you are not using
those services then turn them off in /etct/modules.conf

Scientific theories, according to Sir Karl Popper, can be "falsified," or
proven wrong, by experiment.
Unscientific theories -Marxist dialectical history and Freudian psychology
were Popper's favorites-
are formed in such a way that they cannot be falsified by data.
