I checked it - yes, if you accept Yahoo Delivers. It looks like
some kind of Yes, please send me spam.

you can compile in a new graphic, I use my websites logos on all of mine. An
easy way to do it is to go to www.freshmeat.net and look for framebuffer
graphic or startup logo or something like that. You will find a program to
do this there.

Hello,
I've got an IDE-SCSI RAID tower (http://www.zero-d.com/ide-scsi1.htm),
but the drives are filling up. My linux box sees the tower, which is
filled with 6 IDE drives as a single large (~50 GB (6*10GB IDE RAID 5))
SCSI disk.
I would like to replace the 10 GB disk by larger ones (60 GB or larger).
How should I tackle that problem?
Could I transfer all data to an extra 60GB IDE HD (ghost???), change the
10 GB disks and than put the ghost back? And what about resizing?
I use Redhat 6.1.
Greetings

There's a trick to replacing spaces with some other character; you have
to use a variable containing exactly one space. You can get this a hack
like this (this is described in the GNU make manual):
E =
S = $(E) $(E)
Now use it:
$(subst $(S),:,$(...))

Well, I have accounts on both of them; but have never POPed mail.
I like Yahoo's My-Yahoo, great financial data; their mail is so so.
Hotmail doesn't require you to have an e-mail address to get an
account, and if memory serves me Yahoo did. This is important for
sacrificial account(s).
Both services can block mail by specific addresses but this is of
limited utility. This type of blocking fails when the offender
alters their user-name. Some junk-mailers just add (or increment)
a number appended to their user-name which defeats address specific
blocking. I would like to see them offer regexp filtering.
Hotmail allows you to specify who you'll accept mail from and
rejects all other mails. IMHO Hotmail has more desirable mail
features. I plan on keeping both these services as well as my
Deja.com account.

I'm no expert, but my own research came to the following conclusion.
X (just X, not XFree or XFree86 or XPaidFor) is software that sits
between your application and the graphics hardware and is responsible
for driving the hardware and providing functions to applications for
drawing lines, coloured triangles, etc. The version of X that comes with
Linux is XFree86. X is based on a client/server architecture - the X
server drives the hardware and the client is responsible for interacting
with applications.
Gnome and KDE are applications that use X to implement a graphical user
interface. I'm not sure whether Gnome and KDE are based on other "window
managers", but others exist.
I'm sure others will add to this (probably others who are better
informed than I am) but hopefully this is a start!

recent (since about a year) versions of XFree86 xterm implement a -hold option

I simply used 'fetchmailconfig' (its own package on Debian systems, I
don't know about other distributions):
---- my ~/.fetchmailrc:
set postmaster "andreas"
set bouncemail
set properties ""
poll pop.mail.yahoo.whatever with proto POP3
user 'myyahoonameissecret' there with password 'mypassowordissecrettoo' is
andreas here options keep warnings 3600
antispam 571 550 501 554
---- eof
Obviously, you shouldn't use "pop.mail.yahoo.whatever" but the pop3
host name given to you by Yahoo!.
I always invoke fetchmail manually.

I get such good service and support form my ISP that I would not dream of
switching. I have never used any of the web-based e-mail services, but my
mother does.
I find her's vexing beyond belief. It tries to mimic Netscape's Messenger
e-mail program, but since it does not run on her machine, but on a server
somewhere, the response times are agonizingly slow. She would never run a
spell check, for example, because it takes over 30 seconds. Every time you
press a button, long delays. I could not stand it.
One of the free services is HotMail. I have never used their stuff. But I
have such a problem with them that I have an e-mail filter that trashes
everything from there unseen by me. It is so easy for spammers to get an
account there, and it costs them nothing, that there is no pressure (such as
losing a month's connection fee) for ending spamming there. Some paid ISPs
even charge an extra fee for terminating an account because of spamming.
HotMail may not be as bad as cyberpromo, but I never get anything from them
anymore due to the filters. If someone wants to e-mail me from them, they
have to arrange somehow in advance for me to put in a superior filter that
will pass their stuff. I have heard that they have a few legitimate users.

Here you go, in the spirit of free software, type this in a file called
arprequest
#!/bin/bash
/bin/ping -c 1 $1 >&- 2>&-
/sbin/arp -a | grep $1
Note: Your paths may vary.
Then do a "chmod +x arprequest"
Presto, instant arprequest command! Use it by doing "arprequest
ip_number"
P.S. Cool, it even worked with a hostname!!

Which programs are needed to run a CD-RW, 8x 4x 32x in Linux.
Running Red Hat 6.1, KDE 1.1.2.
The CD is a Creative (Toshiba).
Is there a GUI based drag and drop as in M$.
Thanks,
cedric

You are under a basic misapprehension. Linux does not detect ram.
It asks the bios how much it has and the bios tells it what it thinks it
should know.

: 64MB

Plenty of use. Linux will believe whatever you tell it .. and you can
check the source code to see why (I'm willing to believe that somebody
has changed the code lately so that the bios call overrides the user
param, but you'd have to prove it to me, who can specify more ram than I
actually have on the boot line, and thus cause a nice crash ...)
: Can you post your RAM Speed and all the person who experenced problem
: about there RAM and Speed, then we can confirm.
It would be useless. They'd also have to post their bios and Mobo data,
since those are the factors involved.
