Hi there,
I am running Mandrake 7.2 with pre-installed KDE 2. I just recently
upgraded to 2.0.1 in hopes of finding the kde Theme Manager, but to no
avail. I would like to basically find out if I can somehow install KDE
theme manager for 2.0 somwhere and if so, how.
Otherwise, if not, how can I take a theme downloaded at Themes.org for
KDE 2 and impliment it??
Thank you so much for any help in this matter!
Sincerely,
Kevin Marshall

Hi there
I have a HP Deskjet 870Cxi and I'm currently using Slackware 7.0. When I
try
# lptest | /dev/lp0
I get something like "No such device". The same happens to lp1 and lp2.
I checked, and all /dev/lpx are there. What could it be? Am I testing
the printer correctly?
The printer works correctly under Win98.

Prepare for the surprise. There is no such link in RH. There is a
rpm package called mailx which, strangely enough, doesn't contain a
mailx command.
$ rpm -ql mailx
/bin/mail
/etc/mail.rc
/usr/bin/Mail
/usr/lib/mail.help
/usr/lib/mail.tildehelp
/usr/man/man1/Mail.1

for your information i found a way, however by definition of what i just
said it was not by my ISP telling me, how to get ppp started. I fooled
around and got a ppp session started, using minicom. Still haven't got
it working using kppp though but i'm closer than i was.
what still hasn't been answered is why i do not have to do the same
thing in Windows.
After i get the current menu system to appear in the terminal window i
hit 0 which isn't really an option. THat gets me a prompt, although not
a shell prompt. If I type in 'ppp' and then hit 'enter' i'm given my
remote IP and the current value of MTU. However I do not get the weird
ascii characters signifying a ppp ssession being started until I hit
another key after i'm given my remote IP. Only then does it look like my
ISP is trying to start PPP on their end. However I havent yet got kppp
to work with sending the right data in order to get the ppp link going.
I'm still getting errors that i started ppp w/o the server being ready.
I dont think im sending the carriage returns properly in order for the
remote IP to show up, and then after that send another key value (any
letter , number, whatever) in order to get the ppp garbage to show up.
so that's where im at now

Hello!
I'm about to install Linux on a PC/104 card with a 64MB flash disk.
Most of the Linux distributions I've seen requires a lot more than 64MB, so
I'm wondering if anyone have suggestions on a Linux distribution I can use.

Subject: IDE CD writer
I've got a HP cd writer that is recognized by the kernel and I can use
it like a normal CD rom reader. Now I wanted to burn some CDs and read
the CD writing howto, but I got some problems with that. The howto
mentions a module ide-cd that would be neccessary to use the cd rom. I
don't have this module and my cd rom still works. The howto mentions,
that in order to use the ide-scsi module I have to prevent ide-cd to
recognize my cd rom, but how do I achive this when I don't even have to
use this cd rom. I'm using SuSe 7.0 Professional as my distribution.
There are also some other modules mentioned (sr_mod, scsi_mod) I don't
have. Does this mean I have to recompile my kernel to get these modules
and how do I disable my ide cdrom and how to enable it with scsi
simulation?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Not for me it wasn't. I went directly from an Onyx running System III to a
pc running BSDI.

My Onyx had only 1M. I not only couldn't run Emacs, I couldn't even run a
full-featured vi because text segments were limited to 64k.

Dell Dimension XPS 600 with 12GB IDE with dual boot W98 and RH 7.0.
Also have an Adaptec 2920 SCSI card with a 2 GB Segate Drive.
After loading RH 7.0, everthing is fine, it reboots, boots into KDE.
I am able to work just fine in KDE but if I switch to a text window
(Ctrl - Alt - F1) I am getting a repeating message:
scsi: <fdomain> REQUEST SENSE key = 2, code = 3A, \
Qualifier = 0.
This never stops repeating.
How do I get rid of this message or stop it from popping up?
I know that this has something to do with the Adaptec controller. I
really do not need RH to know it exists so there is no problem taking
the driver out of the kernel (I just do not know how to do that).
Thanks

Dear Linux user.
A hace a problem with a communication program which

the program should come up on the linux console ( and on the X desktop)
in the terminal window:
It comes up as to should with the prompt for the communication
parameters
but the prompt begins to tick and multiply like ::::::::::::::::::::!
In the intifile for the program (tnos packet for radiooperators)
there is a line which says:
export TERM=xterm
I think my Mabdrake 7.2 Linux xterm doesnt like this line .
or is there another process running that is interfering with the serial
line.??
I badly need an expert's opinion on using xterm !!!!!
Thank you so much

You can use any distribution you like.
Just install *only* the components you *really* need (or install to a
normal hd first and copy the necessary files to your flash disk).
You can get the thingie up-and-running in a lot *less* than 64Mb without
too much effort!
cheers

I simply reciprocate the treatment I receive by others. Ignore me and
I will ignore you. Treat me with a bit of dignity and you will get the
same from me. Insult or belittle unnecessarily? Then be prepared for
