I would suggest going to www.XFree86.org and getting the latest
version of Xfree86 instead of copying the server. If you're running
RedHat or can use RPM's go to a command line and type "rpm -qa
*Xfree86*" to list all of the installed packages (I think that's the
command, if it doesn't work look at the man page for RPM). Once you
know what packages are installed go to www.xfree86.org and get the
same packages in the latest release (3.3.3 last I knew 3.3.2 comes
with RHL 5.2). I had trouble getting X to work with my ATI Charger
AGP card and after getting XF86 3.3.3 it installed and ran without a
problem. I also used xf86config instead of Xconfigurator or
XF86Setup, and I found it to be much better.

Good luck!
Don't give up...the source is out there...
