Hi guys,

I'm trying to get KDE working on my 486 with RH
5.2. First I went to the ftp site and had trouble
finding what to download. I eventually went with
the generic stuff, but I can't seem to get it to
install. I believe this to be the error of the
user so I humbly throw myself at your feet. Here
the specifics.

I have it in my home dir.
/home/josiah/kde/kdebase-1.0. I go there try to
run ./INSTALL as root not su. Then it tells me:

./INSTALL: Basic: command not found
./INSTALL: ===============: command not found
./INSTALL: These: command not found
./INSTALL: unexpected EOF while looking for '"
./INSTALL: command substitution: line 4: syntax
error
./INSTALL: The: command not found
./INSTALL: unexpected EOF while looking for '"
./INSTALL: command substitution: line 3: syntax
error
./INSTALL: definitions.: command not found
./INSTALL: unexpected EOF while looking for '"
./INSTALL: ./INSTALL: line 168: syntax error

And then it returns to the prompt. Does anyone
know what this stuff means and how I can remedy
this situations?
I tried the README, but either missed what they
said about this or didn't know what they were
talking about.

If it makes a difference I did run ./mkinstalldirs

TIA

Thanks,
Josiah Ritchie
