The graphics library KDE uses, QT, has now be released in a "lite," open
version. KDE doesn't have any more non-free problems.

Yes, it is. GNOME is in active development but it's certainly stable
enough to use. KDE has the overall edge presently in terms of stability and
general "polish," but in the coming months we'll see a pleasant battle between
these two fine products.
