Cannot get "X" to work

Whatever I've tried I just cannot get X Windows to work.My system just
hangs,I have to reboot every time.No amount of Ctrl+Alt+ F(n) keys get me
back to R level 3. Where should I start to solve the problem.I am using
RH6.I have a CL5446 card.
