With ehci_hcd unloaded performance drops a lot.Yes, every time I got this one working with 2.4 kernels it would not exceed 5 M bits/sec, so I suspect ehci_hcd was not in use then.
As I said, the intended use is for off-site backup, two drives exchanged, so 14GB should not take all night, as it has!
