The most important aspect of the Free Software fandango to me is the
community aspect. Not being much of a programmer, or for that matter a
systems tinkerer, the source code's availability to me is not much of
a day-to-day issue (although I like the thought of being able to add
my own features and fix my own bugs, if only I could program :]
). However, I very much like the fact that the source code is open to
other people, and the development is driven by a community of users
and programmers working for themselves rather than by a company
focused on the bottom line. I can in theory join this community if I
ever get good enough at programming. 

I don't get that with microsoft.
