On the other hand, there's stuff like Syllable/atheos, Yamit, Aros, etc, floating around. A lot of it _is_ admittedly alpha and beta stuff, but an equal amount of it _is_ fueled by disgruntlement with the likes of X Window System, Unix/Posix, etc. So while there's always room for improvement, there's always someone wanting to make those improvements - but you may not always hear about them.
