Dick Smith staff assured me that It would operate under both platforms. It's working fine on M.E. but when I try to install It on Red Hat a message says there are no modems on the system. Now because I am a complete novice to Linux I am probably missing something really basic

If you can't get the modem installed before Thursday, you might care to bring your machine along to the CLUG workshop / clinic at the Sydenham Community Hall.I will bring mine in, since I'm happily running that same modem with no
problems. A quick peek at my system should let us see what we need to
get it running on another system (copy drivers across, or whatever).
<PLEA> ...and hopefully someone of high-guru status with sane can help
me get it running with my Epson Perfection 1260 USB scanner! </PLEA>
This scanner is reputedly supported (stable status) with Plustek 0.45
back-end, but I cannot seem to successfully install that back-end. Another site recommends re-compiling my kernel to support the scanner,
but my lack of guru status means I'm loath to try such stuff! Yet
another site claims I need to upgrade to sane 1.0.10-pre2, yet this
didn't install successfully either. Goodness knows what has been done
to my system in all these attempts, but I know it is beyond my current
level of linux-ness to fix...thankfully everything else still works OK!
