I'd be happy to _attempt_, i.e. I can't guarantee to get your scanner to go.
I have set up sane for a fully supported one. An HP scsi.
Fortunately "It just worked", so I do know a little bit about the subject.
btw, patching and re-compiling kernels was a regular event in the early days
of Linux, so that doesn't terrify me.
Do other things USB work ok under linux on your machine?
What Linux Distribution and it's version are you using?
Only other USB device (Epson Photo 830 printer) works primo.
I'm on Mandrake 9.0, and prefer KDE 3.03 to the other GUI's
supplied with the dist. Kernel is 2.4.19mdk...USB devices
program happily 'talks' to the scanner (ie...sees it on the
USB bus), but sane isn't as co-operative. There are several
conflicting reports about the status/useability of the Epson
1260, which peeves me and confuses me, since the first thing
I saw was on www.mostang.com/sane/ that said the 1260 was
working and stable under the plustek backend...
Kind regards,
