Thank you to everyone who helped.

I changed the hsync and vsync after looking at what was set on the first
web site I found.

I've also learnt more about the structure of the XConfig86 file thou I
still don't understand all the dependencies and references in that file
properly yet.

Thanks for looking over the log file for me Nick.  Most of it makes no
sense to be at all yet.

I am happy to report that my Laptop is now funcitoning properly! :)

Man I am going to have a rant about how much better the filters are in
Ximian than out look!

Think I might go set up a web site focused on the benefits/features in
these applications as I find them.
