Yes, I intentionally ignored the networking side of things but it does need
attention. I was trying to stay as on topic as possible (I don't think it
worked though).
I think most of the group would consider this an interesting topic even
if a bit OT for the list. I say we just put it out there. :)
What about voice mail/IVR requirements?
Asterisk does this out of the box. The cost here would be a voice to do the
recordings and possibly a consultant to write the dialplan.
Yes, my question was what are his requirements and then he has to
consider the time involved to tailor on each platform.
How many users could be using a USB handset plugged into their PC and
not need a separate terminal?
I didn't mention these as I don't really consider them business solutions. To
me you need a handset but that is just my thinking.
Why would you not? Have you had bad experience with them? I could
agree thou that the hardware that the user has needs to be considered.
How many staff could benefit from a switch to PDA solutions?
What about integrated mobile/sip phones?
That is something to think about, the Nokia E series have a built in SIP
client and I have seen a few people on the Asterisk list experimenting with
them. I don't know if they are there yet but it could be a nice solution when
they are.
Yes now we are getting interesting!
If I was looking at a new pabx I'd be giving a lot of consideration to
this and making my vendors explain in detail and even demonstrate how a
users existing mobile handset will seamlessly integrate.
This would include, but not be limited to, a LCR solution so that the
system puts calls to the handset when they're present in the network
rather than across the mobile network.
