They must have changed the procedure from a few months ago then when I was
with them and filled one.

1st they told me to send in pings and tracerts as proof I was down. I did
this through orbits and they deleted them. I called and was told that I
sent it to the wrong department, it has to go through another one. So I
sent them again through orbits and nothing happened. I called again and
they then walked me through the special (hidden) place in orbits I had to
send the logs. Then all SLA claims have to go through the VP.

Also, when I called while they were down, their technician told me that
their ISP was down. When I filed for the SLA they said if I didn't know the
technicians name, date and time of when I called I would not get it.

I called and tried to talk to a VP. I never got my SLA credit until I
threatened with my lawyer. I left the following week.

Perhaps they have improved this, but I have filed and gotten SLA credit with
the Planet, so I know exactly what it is and how it works.

You can get some credit, but it's an uphill battle. At least it was less
than 6 months ago when I left. PS, I still can login to Orbits and I get
the newsletters that I cannot unsubscribe to, so I'm pretty sure they
haven't 'fixed' everything.

That's incorrect.

The SLA credit is worth filing. The current SLA is not for 4 hours, it's for
46 mins. You don't have to fill out paper work either, you can do it all
through orbit. The credit is proportional to the time you were outline, so
the longer you were down, the larger the credit.

Most people don't brother to file a ticket for it. Notice they certainly
didn't remind you to do so in the outage description. They know most
customer don't know they have that right.

I'm just glad I left when they had the last major outage.

SLA credit is, you will get 0.005% back of your monthly hosting if they are
down for say 4 hours out of about 720 hours per month. You fill out a lot
of paperwork and get clients calling angrily and get like $20 credit for
that month hosting!

Also, watch this, because even after they say you get the credit, they
sometimes forget to tell accounting and you never actually get it.

My current providers turns off the main power once a month to verify backup
systems are working properly, like all major ISP's should.

Check the archives for this list for more information on their last major
outage that caused me to leave.
