That's very true. I can't say Rick Dom was referred with the "Rick" word in either TV or movies (it's usually just "Do-mu" or "the one in skirt"), so it could be generated somewhere after the 0079 model line ended (note: check Gundam Century book); but on the other hand I would think the idea was there (Zeon surely needed a space-use conversion for Dom) and the WB/Federation wouldn't know or care to call it Dom vs. Rick Dom.... not even the Zeon side in fact, as one wouldn't see both variants at the same time (most pilots wouldn't see both variants in the whole OYW I'd argue).
That brings me to one annoyance from modelers. Ground type Gelgoog. That's one thing really run against the 0079 timeline IMHO.

REALLY? So I was wrong to say that. Come to think of it, I never sat
down and watch 0079 movies for a second time, so I must have missed a
lot of movies-specific details. I knew about the Dom/Rick Dom name
distinction in all early references and I remember the technobabble
about the thrusters of the two different types of MS, but I don't
remember ever seeing the thrusters on screen or lineart of either Dom
or Rick Dom.

I do remember that in the old model series, there was only a Rick Dom
model at 1/144 (I believe the same can be said for 1/100 and 1/60) but
not a seperate Dom kit. Considering there was an mini-arc about three
named villians behind Dom but nothing comparable for Rick Dom, it's
kind of odd to leave out Dom completely. Remember back then
everything and the kitchensink were released in multiple scale models.
So Dom being left out kinda yelled to me that Dom and Rick Dom's
differences are only in name and the technobabbles.
