Thanks Rick.
Again, I've enjoyed working with CF over the last decade. The purpose
of pointing out differences / advantages of other languages like .NET
is purely to publicly acknowledge them.
It is not the CF user base that has put CF at a competitive
disadvantage with .NET for VLS implementations. However, it is the
responsibility of all IT professionals to recommend, with an unbiased
opinion, the right language for the right job (as is the purpose of
this thread). More so, it is the responsibility of the vendor (in this
case Adobe), to acknowledge and correct these roadblocks for its user
ship.
I myself have been guilty in the past of the making same type of
arguments as Mr. Thompson has here now. CF and .NET are what I know.
Those two languages (combined with integrated JavaScript, DHTML,etc)
cover a vast majority of the types of scenarios of client needs I
encounter.
I try to keep an open mind regarding new languages. However, the one
thing that I do see consistently from CFers, .NETters and other
developers entrenched in their favorite languages, is an unwillingness
to do the same. We don't have to pick or choose one side and use the
same instrument for every scenario.
In the end. I consider myself fortunate to have been given the
experience with .NET. and hope to move on to other technologies to
make myself even more valuable as a developer.

Phillip
