It’s important for ColdFusion developers to learn .Net simply as a means of job security.  I love ColdFusion and have used it for the past 10 years.  I’m still developing cfcPowerTools which is an application that generates CFCs from database tables (it makes your job easier).  But, I’ve been fortunate to learn and work with C# for the past year and a half.  Like Phillip, I too feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn C#.  Prior to that, my only experience had been with CF.  I can sleep better at night now that I know C# because I’m more marketable should I need to get a new job.  .Net is a huge player in the IT world, so it makes sense to expand your skills.

There’s no reason for bashing those who talk about C# and .Net on the CFUG mailing list.  ColdFusion has its place and it’s a great tool for what it’s designed to do.  Like everything, it has limits.  The right tool for the right job.  ColdFusion developers need to expand their horizons.

Personally, I see Adobe pushing Flex as the choice for developing front-ends and using CF as the means of providing data to Flex.  Long term, I do not see CF being used as much for front end development.  Lately, the majority of my web development has been using AJAX, _javascript_, and DHTML for front end and only using CF for backend stuff.

Thanks

Tom
